City of Parma

The incorporation of Parma occured in 1924 and seven years later Parma became a city.  It was during the 1920's that Parma incurred a great influx of residents.  During that decade the population went from 2,345 to 13,899.  The city continued to grow over the next 40 years, but the greatest growth was during the 1950's when more than 54,000 people moved to the city.

According to the 2000 census, Parma is the seventh largest city in the State of Ohio.  The population of Parma stands at 85,655 people living in 35,126 households in an area comprising 20.1 square miles.  Parma is a non charted city with a mayor, 9 ward councilpersons and the president of council.

The city has five fire stations with 90 employees, including 45 paramedics and two fire inspectors.  The Police department, located in the Parma Justice center at 5555 Powers Blvd has 95 officers, 53 school gaurds and auxiliary police force of 50.

Mayor Dean E. DePiero

Dean E. DePiero is the 13th and youngest mayor elected to serve as the City of Parma’s chief executive officer. The city is Ohio’s seventh largest municipality and is a suburb of Cleveland.

Prior to taking office on January 1, 2004, DePiero represented the 15th Ohio House District for three, two-year terms. The district includes Parma, Brooklyn, Linndale and Middleburg Heights.
