Regarding participation in a joint event on the significance of World Bee Day 20, May 2021. I can say that Slovenia has this privilege to be able to present not only the global importance of bees and  pollinators in general as wellas their  impact on sustainable development in agriculture and the environment, etc. but also as  Slovenia is as a country of beekeeping and beekeepers

I have many speakers reserved for the presentation of interesting topics, but I think that everything I have collected is for a single event  too much – so I advise you to take what suits you, and we, the Consulate, will. prepare a separate event for this day, which will present a little more about Slovenias beekeping.

Personally, I would like to connect the significance of this day with the general importance of pollinators for the global world, cultural heritage, economy (variety of honey products) and tourism (apitourism in Slovenia), so below I provide (by rank) speakers and topics already confirmed

Dr. Peter Kozmus, Vice President of the World Beekeepers’ Association Apimondia, is ready to give a short lecture on “The global importance of World Bee Day and the wider importance of bees and other pollinators, the main challenges they face and the possibilities and ways to help them survive.”

Slovenia has also developed a unique direction in tourism, i.e. apitourism, which will be presented with concrete proposals by the director of the specialized tourist agency Aritours, Mrs. Tanja Arih Korošec.

We also have a beekeeper who is credited with developing of the t.i. urban beekeeping Mr. Gorazd Trušnovec – who will also be the main speaker at the autumn “Cleveland Sister Cities Conference” where part of sustainable development will be dedicated to beekeeping and especially to urban beekeeping.

At the same time, we will also present an exhibition by Slovenian photographer Luka Dakskobler, who otherwise works for National Geographic – 16 of his photographs in an exhibition entitled “Urban Beekeeping in Ljubljana”.

We will also connect bees and their importance with Ohio or Cleveland:

On the topic of cultural heritage, we will prepare an online exhibition of the collection of beehive extensions, again a specialty of Slovenia, where a large private collection of American Slovenes from Cleveland with a historical background will be prepared by the famous American Slovenian historian Joe Valencic from Euclid.

In the meantime, we also want to include American Slovenes from the Cleveland area, who are engaged in beekeeping and have a Slovene type of t.i. The Carniolan bee, which is the second most widespread species of bee in the world and is known and appreciated mainly because it survives even in severe cold.

Ohia Beeking Association in Ohio Norteastbeeking Ass. I haven’t been able to contact due to the lack of time…and ask them for cooperation yet – but it would be nice to have them too. Do you have any contacts with them or know somebody?
But there are Beekeppers from Milwaukee who want to participate in our event. Contact is Mr, Charles Koenen, administrator of the web page Beevangelists, who organized the 1st Wordl Bee Day in 2018.

We may also include paintings with a bee motif by acclaimed American painter Cathie Bleck of Cleveland Heights (www.cathiebleck.com), whom I am meeting tomorrow.

I will also soon meet the owner of a well-known traditional beekeeping company from 1869 onwards, the A.I. Root Company They also have a conference center – maybe they could also advertise our sponsor and the event in a magazine – when I see the conference center I let you know if it would be suitable for a recording of our event !!!!

In the vicinity of Cleveland, young entrepreneur American Slovene Natalie Majc is selling honey products Her interview at 45:05 (7 min.) at https://ohiochannel.org/video/the-sound-of-ideas-supreme-court-nominee-gorsuch-vocational-training-young-entrepreneur – very interesting
NATABEES
Natalie Majc ’18 is part entrepreneur, part agricultural activist, and part cultural caretaker. Four years ago, she assumed the responsibility of maintaining the family’s beehives which had been handed down by her grandfather, who had kept bees as a hobby. She has turned this into an organic business and sells Natabee’s Honey at local farmers markets and online through

Consular Corps Ohio

For the Ohio Consular Assembly, which counts about 25 honorary consuls from different parts of the world, I agree to record a short video in the Botancial Gardens, in which a representative of each country would say what their country does to preserve pollinators, present what they produce. from honey, etc., This would definitely be included to get another international dimension of this world event!

So much for this time.
Technical implementation: from Slovenia they will organize themselves and record everything they need and provide us with their recordings, which we will then include in our entire event. I will be the coordinator and liaison with them, They will speak in English so there will be no need to translate. Everyone is ready to participate live and will be available for any answers and questions, and their presentations will be recorded in advance for security reasons of possible technical problems with the Internet. Oral presentations, short video presentations, maybe even power point presentations. We haven’t gone that far yet…
